Popular music expanded its share of South Korea’s weekly performance rankings to 58% in 2026-W37, up 4 percentage points from 54%. With 29 entries in the 50-title box-office ranking—and six of the top 10—the genre strengthened its lead over musicals and other live-performance categories.

Concerts command the weekly chart

JX TOUR CONCERT: CORE in Incheon took first place, ahead of the Seoul production of the musical Elisabeth. Popular music then occupied four consecutive positions from third through sixth: HIGHLIGHT FAN CON, CHANGMO: MONOLITH, Wave to Earth’s solo Seoul concert and Damons Year’s concert.

The genre also returned at No. 10 with Awesome Stage, featuring N.Flying and Hi-Fi Un!corn in Busan. Musicals filled the remaining four top-10 positions: Elisabeth at No. 2, followed by Dracula, Gwanghwamun Sonata and Frozen at Nos. 7 through 9.

A widening gap across genres

Popular music’s 29 ranked productions far exceeded the 11 musicals in the top 50. Circus and magic accounted for four entries, while theater had three. Dance, multidisciplinary performance and Western classical music each placed one production.

That distribution shows a chart increasingly concentrated around concerts and fan-oriented events. Popular music alone represented more entries than musicals, theater, dance, classical music and multidisciplinary work combined.

New arrivals reshape the rankings

The weekly list recorded 32 new entries, including the chart-topping JX TOUR CONCERT: CORE, HIGHLIGHT FAN CON and CHANGMO: MONOLITH. Five productions moved upward, while 13 declined.

The high number of debuts indicates that popular music’s larger share was supported by fresh programming rather than only established titles holding their positions. Concert schedules can produce sharp weekly changes as limited-run events open, rank strongly and then leave the chart.

Seoul remains the center, but regional dates matter

Eight of the top 10 performances were staged in Seoul. The two exceptions were also popular-music events: the No. 1 JX concert in Incheon and the No. 10 Awesome Stage show in Busan.

The week therefore paired continued concentration in the capital with evidence that major concert dates outside Seoul can compete at the highest level. The rankings establish relative position and genre share, however; they do not by themselves show ticket revenue, attendance or venue capacity.
