K-Pop Tours Take 52% of Korea's Weekly Stage Chart

Pop music widened its hold on Korea’s live performance market in the second week of July 2026, taking 52% of the top 50 box office chart against 50% a week earlier — a two-percentage-point gain driven almost entirely by a cluster of arena tours opening outside Seoul.
The chart, compiled by the Korea Performing Arts Box Office Information System (KOPIS) under the Korea Arts Management Service, counts 26 pop music productions among the 50 highest-grossing performances. Musicals account for 16, plays for five, Western classical for two, and dance for one.
Three Arena Openings Reset the Top Five
Thirty productions entered the ranking for the first time this week, an unusually heavy turnover that reflects the summer tour calendar rather than any structural shift in demand. Three of those debuts landed immediately in the top four.
ENHYPEN’s WORLD TOUR: BLOOD SAGA opened in Busan at second place. 2PM’s Concert: THE RETURN entered at third in Incheon, and BOYNEXTDOOR’s TOUR: KNOCK ON Vol.2 took fourth, also in Busan. The pattern is worth noting on its own: the week’s three strongest new pop entries all staged outside the capital, in port cities with large-capacity venues that have absorbed a growing share of domestic tour dates as Seoul arena slots have tightened.
FKJ’s Korea concert in Goyang rounded out the pop presence in the top ten at tenth place, the only foreign act in that tier.
Musicals Hold the Summit but Cede Volume
The number one position still belongs to a musical. Beethoven, running in Seoul, topped the chart, with Dracula fifth, Gwanghwamun Sonata sixth, Billy Elliot seventh, Dear Evan Hansen eighth and Those Days ninth — six of the top ten.
That distribution captures the market’s underlying asymmetry. Musicals dominate the middle and upper-middle of the ranking through sustained runs at fixed Seoul houses, while pop concerts spike the chart in short, high-capacity bursts. A single three-night arena date can outsell weeks of theatre attendance, so genre share moves sharply whenever tour schedules cluster — which is precisely what happened here.
Concentration Is Rising, Modestly
Top-genre concentration also moved from 50% to 52%, tracking the pop share exactly, since pop music is the leading genre. Eight productions climbed the ranking week-on-week and 11 slipped, meaning the churn was net-negative for incumbents: the 30 new entries displaced more than they promoted.
For the non-commercial end of the market, the numbers are thin. Western classical holds two of 50 slots and dance a single one. Plays, at five, remain in the low single digits they have occupied through most of the year’s summer weeks, when theatre programming typically pauses.
The Question for August
A two-point swing over one week is not a trend. The more useful test is whether pop’s share holds once the current tour block closes and the ENHYPEN, 2PM and BOYNEXTDOOR runs drop off the chart. If musicals reclaim the vacated slots, this reads as ordinary summer seasonality. If pop stays above 50% into a quieter tour period, it would suggest the concert business has moved to a structurally larger base — with the regional arenas in Busan, Incheon and Goyang doing more of the work than the Seoul-centric chart history would predict.
